Ranking context
Why it ranks #7
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga ranks #7 in our Best Game Boy Advance Games list. It is the most immediately welcoming RPG in the Top 25, turning attacks and defense into active timing challenges. Heavy dialogue and some repetition keep it below the top six.
The game links its central two-brother idea across exploration and combat. Bros. Actions solve environmental puzzles, while timed attacks and defenses reward attention on every turn. Its brisk humor and animation keep a conventional RPG structure feeling lively.

Best for
you are new to RPGs or want Mario comedy with battles that demand attention.
Skip if
timing inputs are difficult or you prefer deep statistical customization over authored character abilities.
Modern playability
How it holds up today
Expressive sprites and direct controls remain strong. A few repeated tutorials and minigame interruptions can slow the pace, but the campaign is shorter and more varied than many GBA RPGs. Nintendo Classics makes the original edition easy to access.
The difference
What makes it different
Timed attacks and dodges keep combat active in a way Golden Sun and Final Fantasy VI do not. Outside battle, Mario's familiar jumps and hammers become two-character puzzles instead of ordinary platforming stages.
